Vicente Moreno: The Amir Cup is a precious tournament we strive to win

Vicente Moreno, the coach of Al-Rayyan, confirmed the team’s readiness to face Al-Wakrah in the quarter-finals of the Amir Cup. During the press conference held on the sidelines of the match, he said: “We know the importance of this tournament; it is a major championship we seek to win. We know the Al-Wakrah team very well, and they are a very good team. We hope to achieve victory in this match because Al-Rayyan is a big club, and big clubs are always looking for a win.”

He added: “We know that a very difficult match awaits us tomorrow. Al-Wakrah is an ancient and distinguished club with high-level players. I worked with them; just a month ago, I was working with them. Of course, I wish Al-Wakrah success, but after tomorrow’s match. Al-Wakrah was the club that welcomed me when I arrived in Qatar; they were like my family and represent a special club to me. We will play against them tomorrow, and it is natural to look for a win. It would be wonderful to win the first Amir Cup title with Al-Rayyan.”

He continued, saying: “We are happy with what we have achieved by winning two trophies, but we have forgotten about those two titles. We need to win the Amir Cup, starting from the Al-Wakrah match. Our focus currently is on the Al-Wakrah game. I repeat, this cup is the most precious of all for everyone in the State of Qatar. A great responsibility towards the fans falls on our shoulders, and the opportunity is open for us to win it for the club’s supporters.”

Moreno returned to talking about the Al-Wakrah encounter, saying: “We must play and participate in many matches during this month. During this period, we have the focus and motivation to play these games. In football, there is always winning and losing. Regarding the Amir Cup, I spoke to the players and told them that these efforts are worth the trouble. If we win three titles, it will be wonderful, and then we will have time to rest. At this time, we have no time except to think about the Al-Wakrah match.”

Moreno pointed out that the secret behind the players’ brilliance since he took over the responsibility of coaching the team is that Al-Rayyan possesses the best players, wishing them continued success in providing these wonderful levels during the Amir Cup quarter-finals. He said: “When I moved to Al-Rayyan, I had a high chance of winning titles because the team has high-level players.”
