Al-Rayyan Sports Club athlete, sprinter Driss Essiter (18 years old), delivered an exceptional performance at the Aspire Indoor Invitational championship. He recorded an astonishing time of 6.52 seconds in the 60m indoor heats, before confirming his dominance by winning the final in first place with a time of 6.54 seconds. This time ranks among the highlights of the season, placing the Al-Rayyan athlete just 0.01 seconds away from the world under-20 record, which has been held by British sprinter Mark Lewis-Francis since 2001 with a time of 6.51 seconds.

This achievement reflects the high technical level that Driss Essiter has reached at such a young age, thanks to the continuous technical and training work within Al-Rayyan Club under the guidance of his coach, Mr. Idris Al-Sitir, and the technical director of the athletics department, Shadi Abu Al-Hamad. It reaffirms that the club remains a true factory of talents in athletics.

In this context, the head of the athletics department at the club, Rashid Al-Khayareen, said: “What our athlete Jaber Khamis has achieved is a major accomplishment for Al-Rayyan Club and the athletics department. It reflects the quality of the technical and training work carried out by the department and the coach within the club.” He added: “Reaching a time of 6.52 seconds at this age is not an easy feat; it is the result of planning, commitment, and professional work. We are proud of the athlete and the technical staff, and we will continue to provide our full support to the club’s talents to achieve more successes at both the local and international levels.”

He also expressed thanks and appreciation to the head of the national teams, Khalifa Abdulmalik, for his continuous support and fruitful cooperation, which has played a significant role in providing the appropriate environment for the development of national talents and the achievement of these distinguished results.
