Portuguese coach Artur Jorge of Al Rayyan said during the post-match press conference following the Al Rayyan vs. Al-Nahda clash in the Gulf Champions League: “My feeling is clear—we were fighting to win the match. We had scoring opportunities, and this result was not enough and somewhat unfair. We created numerous chances but failed to capitalize on them and score the goals. We managed one goal; we’re still at the beginning of the tournament, we earned a point away from home, and the road ahead is long.”
He added: “Our attacking play lacked the final touch. Al-Nahda played by keeping the ball simple at first, then dropped back defensively and relied on counterattacks. As for Al Rayyan, we did everything to secure the three points, and the match featured many individual duels.”
He refused to comment on the refereeing decisions, saying: “I don’t like talking about the referee. They did their best, and mistakes happen from everyone. It’s not fair to discuss the referee and look for excuses. We got a point, and the team remains at the top of the group.”
He pointed out that the team played to secure the three points, emphasizing that the match statistics clearly show Al Rayyan’s dominance due to the chances they created.
