Al Rayyan achieved a remarkable feat by advancing to the semi-finals of the 2025 Amir Cup, securing a dramatic victory over Al Duhail in a 5-4 penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw in regular time. The electrifying match, held on Wednesday evening, May 14, 2025, at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, showcased an outstanding performance from the “Al Raheeb.”
Al Duhail started strongly, taking a two-goal lead with strikes from Edmilson Junior in the 24th minute and Michael Olunga in the 57th minute. However, Al Rayyan displayed immense fighting spirit, pulling one back through Roger Guedes in the 78th minute. The Egyptian star Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” then leveled the score in the 88th minute, paving the way for a tense penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Al Rayyan’s players, led by their goalkeeper, shone brightly, successfully converting five penalties against Al Duhail’s four, sealing their place in the semi-finals where they will face Al Ahli in a highly anticipated clash.
Notably, Al Rayyan reached the quarter-finals after defeating Lusail 4-2 in the round of 16. The “Al Raheeb” now aim to reclaim the prestigious Amir Cup title, absent from their trophy cabinet since 2013.
