Al Rayyan Sports Club successfully hosted its second friendly athletics championship today, Wednesday, under the patronage of Mr. Ali Salem Al Afifa, the club’s vice president, and in collaboration with the Qatar Athletics Federation and Aspire Academy. Held at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium track and field, the championship saw participation from three clubs: Al Arabi, Al Khor, and the host club, Al Rayyan, alongside athletes from Aspire Academy. Pocari Sweat sponsored the event.
The championship featured track and field events for youth, junior, and cadet categories, with over 100 athletes participating. The events included 60m, 120m, 150m, 1200m, 1500m, 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump, pole vault, shot put, discus throw, and hammer throw.
Ali Salem Al Afifa emphasized the club’s commitment to supporting and developing sports, providing competitive opportunities for athletes. He highlighted the importance of such championships in preparing the next generation of athletes for major competitions.
Similarly, Thabet Sourour Al Abdullah, a member of the Qatar Athletics Federation board and vice-president of the technical committee, stressed the importance of local championships in enhancing the technical level of youth category athletes, noting that such events contribute to refining their skills and preparing them for competitions.
Rashid Al Khayareen pointed out that the friendly championship provides an opportunity for participating club athletes to experience the atmosphere of championships and competitions. He expressed his gratitude to the Al Rayyan Club management, headed by His Excellency Sheikh Al Qaqa’a bin Hamad Al Thani, for their support of athletics and their contribution to hosting this event. He also thanked both the Qatar Athletics Federation for their technical support and Aspire Academy for this partnership, emphasizing that the championship offers a suitable opportunity for athletes to develop their abilities and achieve success and progress in the “mother of sports.
