Doha, Qatar – Ahmed Al Shaabi, President of the Qatar Handball Association, crowned Al Rayyan as champions of the 40th GCC Handball Clubs Champions Cup, which was hosted by Al Arabi Club at the Al Duhail Sports Hall. Al Rayyan’s coronation came after defeating the Kuwaiti club Kuwait 33-32 in a match that went to two extra periods after a draw in regular time.
Al Rayyan had a successful run in the tournament, winning all three of their group stage matches before defeating Bahraini club Al-Deer in the semi-finals. They then faced Kuwaiti club Kuwait again, who had defeated Al Arabi in the semi-finals. Al Rayyan had previously beaten Kuwait 30-26 in the group stage.
